Cork Yoga mats are considered one of the ideal surfaces to practice Yoga on because of their antimicrobial and anti slip surface. However, a mat made of cork alone may not last for long. Though there are cork mats with cork on one side and TPE or synthetic rubber on the other side, it still does not add to mat’s performance and durability. Also, with TPE and synthetics, the mat cannot be considered as 100% natural.
JURU Yoga has a range of world’s best cork yoga mats which are a blend of premium European Cork and Indian Natural Rubber. These mats are specially designed for Yoga lovers who are passionate about daily practice and Yogic lifestyle. They are not only 100% natural but also come with the best grip and antislip surface so you can practice without worrying about slipping or losing balance.
JURU Cork Yoga mats are made in India and offer unmatched grip during sweaty practices. Thus the mats have been endorsed by seasoned yogis from around the world as one of the best cork yoga mat. The unique blend of cork and natural rubber makes the mat durable and being natural, it can be easily recycled.
Cork yoga mats are made from the bark of the Cork Oak, which is grown in the Mediterranean region and has a lifespan of 250 years. It can be harvested without harming the tree and grows back periodically every few years. Only about 50% of the bark is removed at the time of harvesting. This makes cork accessories biodegradable and easily renewable, as it will break down into the environment at the end of its life cycle.
We wonder why more people aren’t using this comfortable and easy-to-clean and easy-to-maintain material that is ideal for Yoga practice. The sweatier you get, the grippier the mat gets! It does not feel like wood, plastic or vinyl and has a yielding and soft feel which is ideal for long hours of practice.
Cork tends to repel dust, hair, and other small particles from its surface. It contains a waxy substance called suberin. This material has the property of naturally repelling small vermin and insects. This makes cork resistant to the growth and colonization of these organisms, and can, therefore, help to promote the healthiest and clean surface for Yoga practice.
JURU cork mats also contain Indian natural rubber which acts as a source of protection by providing cushioned support. This unique blend makes JURU natural yoga mats waterproof and anti slip, which is highly beneficial for sweaty yoga classes, outdoor and indoor practice. JURU Yoga also uses non-toxic (food grade) coloring to give the mat its unique look and give you variants to choose from.
Both cork and natural rubber are natural and renewable materials. No trees are cut or harmed to get these two natural materials. While cork is harvested from the bark of cork oak trees, natural rubber is extracted from the sap of a tree species called Hevea brasiliensis (rubber tree). The inherent properties of both cork and natural rubber which go into making your JURU cork yoga mat are – durability, natural resiliency, and low maintenance.
These mats provide a firm grip and are at the same time very soft. It is odorless, easy to use and clean, and eco-friendly and ideal for all groups, especially pregnant women and practitioners with breathing problems as they are toxin-free.
JURU non slip yoga mat is ideal for sweaty practices like Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa and Hot Yoga flow. They are also highly suitable for Yoga studios who wish to go green and discourage the use of toxic PVC mats in the world of Yoga.
There is no need to clean the mat regularly because cork naturally destroys bacteria and mold. Countless yogis have switched to cork yoga mats for its insistent slip resistant surface, also during the sweatiest hot yoga.
Cork is a material supreme in sustainability and body-friendly properties. Unlike most artificial materials used in yoga mats, cork is naturally antimicrobial, hypoallergenic and encompasses zero PVC’s or dangerous chemicals.
Hence JURU mats are the most preferred and best cork Yoga mat which will take your practice to the next level.
Cork Yoga mats are easy to maintain, however, if you keep the following product care tips in mind, your mast can last for a long time!
Never fold your cork mats. Always keep them rolled. For cushioning joints like knees in specific asanas, we recommend the use of props like knee pillow, headstand pillow, blanket etc.
The new product smell of cork and natural rubber is absolutely non-toxic and will fade away after a few practice sessions.
You can also give your brand new mat a wash with plain water (under a tap or just place it in a bucket of water) and rub the surface with your hands to get rid of surface dust.
JURU cork yoga mats dry up fast. Place it under a fan or in the sun for a few minutes.
Since the non slippery mats are reversible, you can roll it both ways now and then so the mat lays flat, regardless of which side you choose to practice on.
After a sweaty practice, you can just wipe the slip resistant surface with a wet cloth to enhance mat’s performance.
If your practice is usually intense or if you sweat a lot, you can clean/wash the mat once in six months with water, non-toxic/chemical-free detergent. You can use any soft brush to scrub the surface.
Sanding is another great technique to maintain the new look of your mat. Small piece of sandpaper is enough to rub the affected area/stain on the surface.
All our cork mats are 3 mm thick as this is the ideal thickness for cork and natural rubber mats. However, if you are used to extra cushioning and are looking for 6mm cork yoga mats, you can place the JURU mat over your old mat or over the studio mats. This way you can avoid contact with the PVC surface, get the desired cushioning and also enjoy the best grip of cork mats.
The natural, anti slip and best cork yoga mats may feel a little different at first and it may take you a few practice sessions to get used to the surface. But it is our guarantee, that once you settle in and get used to it, you will not opt for any other mat.
The Cork tree is considered a blessing within its towering and is honored for its endurance, and noble presence. A tree that always gives the most organic product, it’s bark. She regenerates her bark and supports many families during the harvest. This harvest Is a perfect alternative material to plastic. Cork is sustainable, eco-friendly, antimicrobial and renewable.
Natural Rubber is an elastic substance obtained from the latex sap of trees, especially those trees which belong to the genera Hevea and Ficus. The sap is tapped in large rubber farms in Kerala.
Both these natural ingredients are machine blended and laid to multiple sheets to create a block which is cured at a set temperature for 24 Hrs.
The block is then manually laid into sheets and processed to finally be made into extra long cork yoga mats. JURU Cork Yoga mats are extra long compared to common PVC mats. They are 72 inches long and 24 inches wide.
JURU is a portmanteau of JUte and RUbber and our first mat overlay was made of jute and natural rubber. ‘juu-roo’ also means ‘eureka’, ‘joy’ in a few tribal languages. Instead of crying Eureka we cried JURU! And this is precisely what JURU is – a perfect yoga companion for yogis who wish to choose the eco-friendly path.
We wanted mats and props to reflect and value the peaceful principles that yoga embodies; one of which is to establish perfect harmony with nature. Taking inspiration from some wonderful international eco-yoga brands and from the make-in-India campaign, we launched our first made-in-India anti-slip yoga mat overlay.
